Any definition of rock is fine. Any era is fine.

I am a bit of a softy, so my favorites are more garage / blues / indie:

  • The Strokes ❤️
  • The Black Keys ❤️
  • The Arctic Monkeys ❤️
  • Kasabian ❤️
  • Black Box Revelation
  • Pixies
  • FIDLAR
  • Cage the Elephant

Just received a notification about the new June update for System76's own desktop environment: COSMIC DE. I was sceptical at first, but this seems pretty impressive. It might finally be the modern and user friendly i3/Sway that I've been dreaming of!

Signal is doing just fine with donations only.

Debian is one of the biggest free software communities and it isn't going anywhere.

Most projects have a limited lifespan, this is not just limited to open source projects. The good thing is that when there is a need, people get together and start building. For example music players on Linux have come and gone, but I will always be able to listen to my stuff comfortably.

Money is needed to survive, but these projects exist because we want more than that, to live satisfied and happy lives. This is something that goes beyond money or survival, but is still a very strong and genuine incentive.

Thank you for opening up this discussion!

I like Voice for my audiobooks. Also Newpipe and of course Signal :).

I don't know if it's actually a mechanic but I love it when a game has instant restarts and generous checkpoints. Takes away a lot of the frustration and allows me to play on a higher difficulty and still enjoy my time with it.

Plop Plop Plop Plop made me immediately hear it in my head :)

I agree on both a Short Hike and your experience with Trackmania grinding. We seem to have very similar tastes :)

A Short Hike might be my favorite peacefull one. Or death stranding on a lower difficulty.

Hey Beehaw people.

I've been going through a rough time, but today was a good day. Sun was shining, I felt well rested and was able to help people in the afternoon at my work place (I currently volunteer fixing bikes). Afterwards I chilled with some friends who live close by, played some chess, then I was able to join in a meeting for the autonomous gym that I am a part of and was able to be of help there.

A day of rest, friendlyness, joy and connection. Now I'm finishing the day with some peaceful videogames, by myself in my safe little bubble.

I know difficult moments will still come, but so will days like this one.

Lot's of love to all of you! I feel that this community could be a digital version of what I'm starting to find IRL in the autonomous gym and similar places.

I can understand, but for me I feel Kojima has this beautiful combination of camp and seriousness. There are bits where he clearly is to full of himself and would have needed an editor, but the main feeling and dynamics of death stranding is still something very unique and genuine.

I too waited a pretty long time until finally biting the bullet. It being a part of Playstation Plus Extra helped. It's also a really nice game to play on the side if you want to take a breather from the other genres you're playing.

Also, I can recommend playing the original Metal Gear Solid. It is my favorite in the series and one of my favorite games of all time. Really still holds up well, and of you use a nice old school CRT shader it even looks nice in my opinion :).

I totally agree, this game is just so obviously anti violence, really nice change from all the other big games.

A Short Hike is simply delightful. I just started playing it and it feels so genuine and kind, just a cute and happy little game!

It really does make sense to me what you said :).

I'll check out that community too. Is cross-posting or something similar a thing on lemmy?

This game is such a roller coaster of emotions. Some of the most beautiful imagery I've ever seen in a video game. Genuinely awesome soundtrack (both the licensed music and original material).

There were moments when it was frustrating and boring, and the storytelling can sometimes be way to literal and explanation based.

But I truly did love the story underneath, as it was one of hope and the importance of connection to get through rough times. Some subjects hit real close to home for me, and at times it can get quite depressing, but this strong sense of hope and helping each other is always there to lift you back up.

Again, some game mechanics and cut scenes really didn't work for me, but other parts of the game will be forever in my mind.

I'm rating it a 7.5<->10.5 out of 10. I've decided conventional scales don't cut it for games like this.

I would love to know your opinions if you want to share them!
