Not American so perhaps I'm missing something, but doesn't it make sense tips are taxed? It's income, so why wouldn't it be?

Wat een gekke avond. Gelukkig loopt het voor Ajax goed af maar echt totaal aan jezelf te danken dat het zover komt.

Pasveer een held. Brobbey moet geen penalty's meer nemen.

I find it so strange the US still has the death penalty and to read people on lemmy advocate for it surprisingly frequently, despite its rather progressive user base.

I just gave an example of running where it was about pushing, not if someone crossed a line. They even changed their decision after an appeal when other people looked at the same situation again.

And sports like football or hockey... Have you ever watched those sports? There are subjective calls all the time. It's objective criteria, but a human still has to interpret things like handball, which depends on if your arm is in an "unnatural position" or not. Those are largely subjective decisions and there is controversy around them all the time.

With breakdancing they are of course also judging specific criteria:

The winner is determined by a panel of judges, who score each performance based on five criteria each worth a fifth of the point maximum

It's really not that different.

Running has judges. Just the other day in the women's 1500m (I think) a woman was initially disqualified for pushing someone. She appealed and the decision was reversed. It's all about interpretation and subjectivity.

I can't think of any sport that doesn't have a judge or referee that has to subjectively interpret athlete's actions and the sport's rules.

In the Netherlands we have this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Numbered-node_cycle_network

That works super well cause you can just follow the numbers. You can have those on a piece of paper if you need, or memorize the intersections where you need do something else besides following the next numbered node (so for example you go 25-26-27-28-51). You can just remember to keep following the next one until you need to go to 51.

Normal street signs look like this: Verkeersborden in Nederland https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/File%3ANederlands_verkeersbord_K7.svg

The color scheme indicates it's for cyclists. For motorized vehicles they're blue with white letters. In cities there are also signs for pedestrians which are black with white letters.

And there are also these for cyclists, in rural areas: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Padstool_%28signage%29

If you prefer the hockey shootout over penalties in football, better get a time machine (and an airplane perhaps) and go watch the MLS in the 90s: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNExAtWu0CU

  • does trading among your own cities get you more resources, or are they simple transferred between cities?
  • how much should I follow the recommendations for producing stuff? Sometimes it's useful but it almost never tells me to produce a builder even though they seem kinda crucial
  • how fast should I be expanding? Should I be starting cities as much and as quickly as possible?
  • is it me, or is it very hard to trade favorably or even equally with non-human players? They never seem to be OK with trading one resource for another. They always want some gold too.

I'm only on my second game so far, so still figuring things out. Enjoying it a lot though!
