When you start a new save, there are different game types you can choose like Creative, Suvival, and Expedition. They each have their own rules and settings. In this case when I say Normal, I mean the default game type and specifically not an Expedition.

I've literally killed around 3 dozen. Nothing so far. I just wish I knew I wasn't wasting my time.

Yeah, you crush the juicy grub and it makes the Vile Queen attack. Supposedly the queen drops the different helms but I have killed SO many and gotten nothing with my expedition save.

Has anyone still in the Liquidator Expedition managed to get one of the new insect helmets by killing a Vile Queen? I've seen people on YouTube do it with Normal saves, but I am wondering the Expedition saves are bugged (pun intended). I've been farming for a while and gotten nothing. Maybe I'm just unlucky.

¯_(ツ)_/¯

That sucks. I've checked multiple bases across my saves, and somehow none of them were impacted. I expected at least a couple of them to be trashed because I tend to build along the terrain and into caves. While surfaces features of the planets changed, the terrain itself seemed to stay the same.

I'm not holding my breath though. Worlds Part 2 is coming eventually and there's no telling what will happen.

I don't know of guide, but off the top of my head...

Quest ListComplete the Artemis Storyline (That is a requirement to trigger other quests).

Jumping between systems will eventually trigger...

Buying a Void Egg will trigger the Starbirth quest Sending frigates on expeditions will eventually get you the Dream Aerial plans

Many of these quests result in rewards like ships, appearance modifications, companions, etc.

I've seen both happen in previous updates, so I don't know what the intention was with this particular update.

Honestly, I am not seeing a big difference so far. I loaded my various saves and checked to see if any of my bases were affected, but didn't see much of a change. Yes, clouds and water are better looking, and some planets had some new terrain features, but nothing major. I wonder if they limited the impacts to existing inhabited planets?

Yes, there have been broad and focused terrain generation changes in previous updates that have wiped out bases, especially if they're built in a cave or follow the existing terrain.

Quite often you just find out the hard way... You teleport in only to find yourself hovering in the sky or embedded in the ground. 😅

I am never going to complain about a NMS update, but if it's planet generation overhaul, you had better take pictures of your favorite bases now.

You can find it at -22.81, +111.53. I have a Communications Station there as well.

Did you keep playing once you completed the Omega Expedition?

I decided to build out my base on Nash 33/W4. It has an S-Class Sodium mine and all of the crops except NipNip. It is mostly built with stone with some prefab structures.

I actually hit the base part limit and had to back off so it could still be uploaded.

It's built into the nearby landscape...

A portion of the base is under ground but I did not use the Terrain Manipulator so I don't have to worry about it filling in later...

It sits across from a crashed freighter...

Now, I will probably take a break for a little bit until the next major update.

Oh good... I felt bad that I couldn't move the dumpster for Brendan in my latest playthrough.

Great find! You should share this in NMSGlyphExchange.

I decided to start a new save and forgo the new expedition feature in the Anomaly. I feel like part of the fun is starting from scratch and finding shortcuts to get units, complete milestones, etc. Plus I often play my expedition saves even after the expedition is over.

I made it to Phase 3 before I quit playing today. Overall I like the expedition. Nothing has been particularly annoying but I guess that could change in the next phases.

How's it going for everyone else?

I've been playing NMS for a long time so I'm no stranger to updates destroying my bases, but I'm used to it happening during major updates. This came out of no where.

I haven't played since the last major Update and Expedition, but I thought I would log in to check on things before the next Update and Expedition were announced. I did not expect to find one of my cave bases in disarray.

Before you ask, no, I didn't use the terrain manipulator, I simply built the base into an existing cave and along the mountainside. Other bases I've checked seem fine so I'm not sure why this one was impacted.

Did this happen to anyone else or am I just lucky?
