Chernobyl comes to mind as the biggest fuck up ever. Whenever I think I fucked up I try to remember, it can never be as bad as Chernobyl.

Lemmy has to reach a critical mass of users before the more niche communities start to grow. Most of it is all tech communities which is expected. Lucky for me thats my interests.

So I've recently been interested in doing a complete switch from Windows to Ubuntu, and I've been playing around with WSL2 in Windows quite a bit and I have to admit I am pretty impressed with their implementation.

However, one of the reasons I've been drawn to Linux these days is the privacy aspect, and I'm looking to get everyone's thoughts on whether using Linux apps in WSL improves your privacy at all, or do I need to just flat out get off windows to get any sort of privacy benefit. My plan is to eventually get off Windows completely, but I guess I'm wondering if WSL is a good middle ground.

Bitwarden, bonus points if you self host it. I use the Vaultwarden variation.

Honestly its for the best that we move here anyways. Way fewer restrictions over here.

Personally I am subscribed to a few Piracy subs on different instances. I will contribute to them all as best I can.

I'm self-hosting the docker containers and I noticed the pictrs directory is steadily growing because of the cached images. Does anyone know if it gets cleaned up automatically or are hosters running scripts to clean it up after a certain amount of time? The install guides make no mention of it from what I can find.

I'm on my own instance, kbin.social never comes up when I search. Are they still have problems or am I doing something wrong?

I did it. So far I've noticed a few things, for example you have to populate/federate the communities yourself, and it can take a long time. It took hours to retrieve and catch up all the lemmy.world posts. I expect it to be an ongoing thing. When you first connect to a community, it downloads the first 20 posts, but all the comments are empty.

The plus side though is it is very fast for me. And nobody can delete my profile.

I think it will for the most part sort itself out. I do see this issue has been brought up before but didn't get much traction.

https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/818

I think that something like being able to group communities by topics would help a lot. You could then just sub to all communities that are tagged with the topic, then the fragmentation really doesn't matter nearly as much. Posts would get spread out across communities and instances (which I think is a good thing) but would still have a decent amount of visibility.

I'm not interested in maintaining a community (I don't have the time to be a moderator), but I have been trying to comment as much as I can. Also, if you think you have something to post about, just make a post.

Imgur announced recently they are going to be purging images that haven't been viewed for x amount of time.

I know most gamers are tired of the Halo and Gears churn from Microsoft, but I gotta admit, I was really hoping Gears 2 and 3 would finally come to PC.
