I'm in the same biz. I use tape. Specifically a Mac mini + canister from guys that make Hedge. I then index each tape with neofinder, it makes it easy to find and pull projects. The idea was to make a system simple enough that it wasn't one persons full time job.

Yes. They say that in the article. Even though they're less reliable they're still cheaper to maintain.

Interesting. I've actually had the opposite experience. Jellyfin has been smoother and more reliable than Plex. Maybe it's worth checking out Emby, I think it solves the fast client switching (but I'm not entirely positive). I've just taken to running both. When I hit Plex snags I pop over to Jellyfin.
