Just listening to some good old stuff when I realised that it was 30 years ago that our very own Monty Don was immortalised on the cover of this masterpiece. He hasn't aged a bit - it's all that outside work and vegetables, no doubt.

Possibly whittled out of the brick long after installation, by a bored funster, using a crude round-tipped tool ?

In the UK it's probably just over 1.5 times the price, but you get a brass boiler instead of aluminium, the boiler is a bit bigger, you get a PID for temp stability, an easily adjustable over-pressure valve, a visible pressure guage, precision engineering (ECM I think) plus whatever else is good about it.

Profitec Go - where did you go? (www.profitec-espresso.com)

Like many others over the past few years, I was following the release of the Profitec Go, expecting to see an increasing user base commenting on such things as modding etc. It doesn't seem to have anything like the fan base of the Gaggia Classic, and I don't see many comments on it at all these days. What happened? Is it not worth the extra cost over the Gaggia? Are users simply content and quiet, or have there been some negative aspects of it which have counted against it? If you have had one for a year or so, let me know the good and bad.

I used to use Boost for Reddit, and thought it was the best app. I've been using Connect for Lemmy for ages now and I've found it to be very good - there are some teething issues, but on the whole it does a really good job for me of replacing Boost, and it's always getting updated with info from the users' own experiences. I will gladly try the Boost for Lemmy app when it does arrive, but for now Connect is just fine.

This is inspiring, I hope it brings happiness to some people who would otherwise have had a much more difficult life.

What is that sticking out of the bottom pie, at just past the 3 o'clock direction? It looks like some chewing gum foil or a folded dollar bill poking out?

I bought a nanotech baristapro basket from IMS, hoping to see an improvement in my shot and a better tasting cup. The basket runs faster than my stock basket, meaning that I need to grind finer with the same beans. The difference between too fine and not fine enough, is very small with the baristapro, it's way too unforgiving. I'm left judging the tamp pressure, to account for the aging of the beans, and missing the relative consistency of my old stock basket (I still have that of course, just trying to make this one work). The best cup I've had with the baristapro was 'maybe' better than my stock best, but not entirely sure (as beans change of course). I'm left now, having used it for a few months, frustrated at the inconsistency caused by the frequent channelling (something my old basket never suffered). I think the increased fine grind has itself actually added to the channelling - as the pressure to penetrate the finer puck forces channels, looking for the path of least resistance. If I grind more coarsely, the short is under-extracted and runs out in too short a time. Has anyone had consistent success with this basket?
