Hello All,

I have an indoor stairwell that I want to have motion activated light sensors installed on. My issues are as follows: the first 10 steps have two wood baluaters on each side that run from the flat step itself up to the handrail (i.e there is no wood on the sides of steps for me to stick a light sensor to). I was thinking I could try to do some sort of LED strip lighting across each step but the other issue is I have carpet running through the middle of entire stairwell (with a few inches of exposed wood on the sides of each step).

Anyone have any ideas or solutions for these issues?

Thanks in advance!

I’m new to smart home / automation and was looking for advice on starting from scratch at a new home. I see a lot of folks here mention Home Assistant and the debate on whether to use wifi/cloud connected devices vs a local network.

Given I’m not a computer expert, looking for suggestions on how to get started on making my home smart with a centralized control type panel and recommendations on the items you like most. For context, I’m hoping to have smart locks, smart bulbs/lightswitches that can be controlled by phone and voice, smart garage opener, smart plugs, tvs if possible (and open to other suggestions)

Thanks for your time and assistance!

Looked through Amazon reviews and prior posts on this subreddit and can’t seem to find a reliable smart lock option.

Was looking at the Yale Assure 2 Touch but appears to drain batteries at a rapid clip, several folks on reddit have recommended ultraloq or liberty but those were shredded on Amazon reviews.

Anyone have a trusted, reliable option that doesn’t require additional drilling and doesn’t drain batteries?

Thanks for your time!
