At this point, I just stopped citing any article paywalled by elsevier, and only their arxiv counterpart.

If anyone ask, I will argue that I cannot obtain the version published by elsevier and have only read the arxiv version; hence citing the elsevier version would be disingenuous.

I don't think anyone think of China as a communist/socialist country for a very long time. Maybe except older generations and tankies.

Ironically, I have met more tankies in six month on lemmy than my 18 years growing up in China. It is truly a wild culture shock that I didn't expect. LOL.

I personally do not find expensive wine and liquor worth it. That obviously don't mean all cheap wines are good, but I find the percentage of bad wine I had at $50 - $70 range is pretty much the same as wine around or under $20.

I find the best way is to research online before you buy or go for couple known-good brands. Most of the results actually tend to be on the cheaper side (around $20 for wine, around $35 for liquor).

Chinese have similar words for "nerd": "书呆子", literally translated to "book doofus". However, It is not used nearly as common as "geek" and "nerd" in English.

It also has a much thinner scope. It only refers to people who are too dogmatic about theoretical knowledge, yet lacks real world skills.

I know this a a joke, but please use a password manager, it is such a game changer.

Bitwarden is free and E2E encrypted and if you want additonal feature, they only cost 10 bucks pre year. You can even use it with anonaddy to hide your email, which is also totally free and open source.

Secure camera is really good. However I find google camera works better in low light with fast moving object, like in door photo of moving pet etc.

For my use case, I have to install GCAM on my main profile, since my wife like to use it; and I don't want to go through the hassel of transferring photos between profile. But of course, I denied internet access and setup storage scope for GCAM.

But that left me wondering, am I just making my life harder by using secure camera as default? Since it seems that although secure camera is pretty good, it is not as optimized as GCAM. I already have GCAM on my phone, so I cannot think of any privacy benefit by not setting it as the default.

What do you think? do you use GCAM or secure camera, and why?
