A huge part of the impact he’s had is just from being such an outspoken ally in the position that he was in. Queer supporters really felt seen, which is hugely important in making them feel understood and not alone. And as Daniels is making clear, queer players also felt the same way with him. And so his decision completely destroys what he did with that, and only makes it worse. Not those same people will feel alone and not understood, but also that their support, or the opposite, can just be bought on a whim.
That 99% of work he did… the vast majority of it is completely gone now, and has been replaced by trust issues.
