Same actually, it didn't look quite how I expected but it actually has some very fine grain patterns that don't show up well in the pictures. With the way it's finished it almost looks more like some kind of shiny gem stone than bone, but maybe that's how ivory always looks. I also have a Ralf aust that I put bison bone scales on and they definitely look more matte and "boney" for lack of a better word...

Thanks so much for the detailed reply! If my first attempts are abysmal, is it possible to strip the paint off and start over without damaging the mini? These are all plastic from AGoAC and the clan invasion kickstarter--I don't have any of the old metal IWM ones.

It's great! It's actually my third Koraat (I also have an 8/8 near wedge "basic" and a 7/8 full hollow "purist"...it's safe to say I'm an addict). Here are some pics Ulrik took (hopefully they upload OK):

So I've decided after playing for a year or two that I'm finally going to try painting my minis. I've held off because frankly I have terrible artistic and fine motor skills and I don't want to ruin my mechs.

Ive bought everything I think I need (set of Vallejo paints, primer, brushes, dry brushes, wet pallet, matte varnish, hobby knife, cutting mat, citadel painting handle...probably more) and I'm about ready to dive in.

I was thinking about trying desert camo but I'm wondering if y'all have any suggestions on what might be an easy beginner scheme for me to get my feet wet, or any other tips on painting in general for the artistically challenged like myself :)

Thanks!

Hi all,

I stood up a single user Lemmy instance today and found out the hard way that you can't have a private instance that can also federate. It was a pain but I had to manually go into the database to fix it.

Now that federation is working and the instance is no longer private, I've noticed that unauthenticated users can see all remote communities I've subscribed to. This wouldn't be a big deal on a larger instance but it feels like a privacy issue since I'm the only user, so everyone can see everything I'm subscribed to.

My question is, is this actually a technical requirement for the federation protocol to work? I've considered trying to configure nginx to serve 403s on certain pages listing communities but I'm not sure if it would break the federation protocol.

Thanks!
