I love having firefox on my phone with ublock origin and DarkReader.

Facebook Container is also a nice addon that suppresses facebook trackers specifically, that are often embedded on all sites where there is some "log in/share/comment with facebook" element

Another option related to the checksum solution is that camera manufactorers could implement a system on the physical camera where the raw file is tagged with some checksum/stamp and the same is stored on the device. In a situation where the validity of the photo/video in question, you could use the raw files and the physical device that captured it as the proof.

I'm sure we will see multiple attempts to solve this, whether it be adverserial "de-fake" AIs, some physical verification or something completely different. It will be interesting to see what work and not, and what may turn out to become the standard way of verification

I feel this is just a natural step in a new, growing platform/community.

Initially there is a smaller userbase tending to be more like minded/interested, and people will mostly behave.

As some get more comfortable and as more users join there will be a point where conflicting views and interests congregate while there may still be lacking people and tools to moderate the discussion, in addition to there being just the amount of content that it is difficult for bad faith content to be buried.

I think a lot of the fediverse is here now, where users are exposed to other users and content with either differing views or straight up intentional bad faith, whereas they previously were in heavily moderated communities or was only exposed to their section of content. Sometimes this might lead to good discussions, while other times it will devolve into rudeness or spite (especially with bad faith parties)

Eventually the amount of content may grow so that these incidents will be harder to notice, and/or more users will also bring more people and tools to aid in moderating said users and content

The player groups following the hindu and buddhism playstyles claim to have figured out NG+. However this hasn't been verified by the devs and is contested by other player groups

While it may not be as gritty/dark as some envision an evil campaign to be, Dimension 20 did an evil campaign mirroring LOTR (albeit in a non copy right violating and light hearted spin).

Personally I enjoyed it, and the full campaign is available on youtube https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLhOoxQxz2yFOSXAFjzg9GQFoky53tDm9d

It even features Matt Mercer as one of the PCs :)

To be more specific, they can serve targeted advertisement, but only based on metrics explicitly provided to Meta. Such as your facebook profile and pages you like/follow/interact with on their platforms.

The issue they're being fined for is using data collected from everywhere else online that is being used to build a sort of cross web advertisement profile for different individuals, that they basically have no say og controll over.

For example, Meta can't track my browser history or activities on say lemmy to build an ad profile and then serve me ads based on that. They would have to use whatever data is actually generated by my Facebook profile that is mostly inactive

I think the idea of using these big sporting events to upgrade or build new facilities is a good one, however the current practice where the host nation/city sits on most/all the expenses and the organizer/owner of the event reeps the profit is completely turned on it's head.

There is enough money involved in these events amd organizations that they should foot more of (maybe most of) the bill to build the facilities and infrastructure, and the host covers some aspects as well as providing the permits and location itself.

Furthermore, some events such the Olympics have such ridiculous demands that cities/nations should start telling them to fuck off imo. One of the more obvious ones being the demand that IOC leaders require a direct private road accessible by limo between their hotel and the venues
