I understand what you mean but I don't think it's about identity. Lots of homophobes are attracted to the same sex and repressing it, it's a fact. It doesn't mean that gay people are homophobes or deserving it or the reason homophobia exists.
I see it as gay people victims of the system and oppressive structure they are part of, which make them hates themselves at least as much as they hate others for being gay.
They are assholes, oppressors, yes, but victims as well, and it makes me sad for them.
It's not infinite though. It says so in the wikipedia article under critics and misunderstandings
