Hey icy,

The decision to block the Lemmygrad instance was less a question of censorship, and more an issue of personal conviction. As a volunteer dedicating my personal resources and time to facilitating a space for users to create, discover, and discuss - not just on this instance, but across the Fediverse - I admit that this choice was made alone, selfishly, without the consent or thoroughly considering the collective opinion of the community. With the above said, sh.itjust.works has had the lemmygrad instance blocked from its first day.

I'd like to also point out that the lemmygrad instance has far more blocked instances than what is currently blocked here. Maybe you can create a post on that instance to see what that's all about and report back?

The security fixes were documented prior and manually applied on our old instance as well. This patch was to get the performance gains and align with the latest release!

That's not normal. Let me know if it happens again

I believe the devs were saying that they were moving away from websockets in v0.18.0 which is scheduled to come out in a few weeks

yes this is an option however the lemmy-ui which is responsible for displaying this page would still show the option. It could be manually removed and might be something I look more into at a later time.

You are right, wrong link! I just updated it. Thanks for the heads up

[–] TheDude 2 points 1 year ago

yes absolutely. You can make your instance private so that no one can join it.

That's correct.

Yes 100%. Using external image hosting service would reduce how much storage is being consumed

Welcome! Which ever instance you sign up becomes your home instance. You can browse other instances through your home instance however when it comes signing in, you need to do it from your home instance. I will add some “getting started” material in the future to help answer questions like these as I know you’re definitely not the only one we these type of questions.
