what they need to do with var is have an ex-top flight ref in the var room as a rules consultant, who's only job is to advise on the rules of the game and knows the rules with encyclopedic knowledge.

then all the var officials and users of the system need to be tech heads with experience in 3D imaging and motion design/implementation.

get the var users up to date on the laws of the game to a workable point, them put them to work.

  1. issue gets spotted, var watching in real time and is flagged for review. depending on issue game resumes/is delayed for no longer than 3 minutes.
  2. var room uses the tech to decipher whats happened, checks with the official in the var room for rules clarification.
  3. tells the ref their findings. if still unclear ref sticks to on field decision.
  4. automatic offsides and ball out of play.

i feel this should keep the var ref seperate enough from the refs mates club to stop them being matey with them and give the tech side of things to those who are used to and good with it rather than the arsey bloke who's been running around cold pitches for 30 years and asks his kids how to post on social media.
