I honestly don't know those terms but I'm very tech savvy. I'm running my own home cloud. I play around with Linux. And I just love tinkering until I fully understand how something works. I don't see the learning curve to be a problem. I'd enjoy the experience which is why I'm seeking it out really. I think I'd really enjoy playing that role in this community.

Thanks for that response. Is there an easy way to start an instance?

Can you tell me more about the pros and cons of running your own instance? Why did you choose to do that? I'm new at this so I'm very intrigued.

I'm thinking about it got I'm just so inexperienced, and I'm mostly a lurker. I'm trying not to be on Lemmy though. It's kinda more fun actually engaging with Lemmy than it was with Reddit

So far I'm really enjoying Lemmy, both the website and Jerboa! But I'm still getting used to the whole federation thing. It's really weird to get used too. Also there seems to be fewer communities/subreddits. I'm missing specific interests...

But the concept is great! I'm excited to be on a open source social network. The mainstream ones are so unethical.

I'm really excited about the opportunity! Hopefully they'll accept me!

Do I need a beehaw account or will this one from lemmy.ml work? I also accidentally made a beehaw account trying to figure out how the fediverse works so I can do that too.

Jerboa is pretty good too.

I'm also a willing volunteer. I'm also a reddit migrant. I was on Reddit well over a decade but now I'm determined to make Lemmy my new social network of choice. I'd love to volunteer for any communities that need help.

Hopefully with so many Reddit apps shutting down we'll see more Lemmy apps.

Which app are you using? I don't think there is a official app but many unofficial ones maybe?

Jerboa seems to be the go to app. I think? Lol
