I am all for 18 teams.

Btw, in Germany all cup games are single-leg. And there is only one national cup, like God intended. So there is still further room to reduce games in England, apart from the size of the league.

If anyone has a thing for desperate relegation duels featuring semi-incompetent teams, Germany has some on offer in all three leagues:

.

1. Bundesliga:
Darmstadt vs. Köln (1.12.

20:30h local time)

.

2. Bundesliga:
Schalke vs. Osnabrück (1.12.

18:30h local time)

.

3. Liga:
Freiburg II vs. Halle (28.11.

19:00h local time)
Duisburg vs. Lübeck (2.12.

14:00h local time)

.

3. Liga also has a top-3 duel on offer though:
Verl vs. Dresden (3.12.

13:30h local time)

Just wanted to add that Sunday (26th) at 4.30 pm local time we will have the current heavy-weight fight of 3. Liga.

Dresden and Regensburg currently lead the table - both with 34 points out of 15 games. The teams behind them have a max. 27 points out of 16 games.

And on Sunday, Dresden and Regensburg will face each other. If this one does not end in a draw, the winner will move a whole 10 points clear of the pack.

And just in general: if both teams continue to be on a roll, the promotion race could become rather boring very soon.
