Yeah but the problem is New Orleans is inside Louis-

Wait did you say more free than anywhere else in the USA?...

Huh, good point.

Screw Louisiana then, it becomes a mangrove forest. Harder to do, but the ocean has unpaved the way at least.

Hard to plant trees in the ocean

The bigger picture is always missing in these posts.

And that is that everything that's happening has already happened in Russia. It's how Putin got power - through the courts.

All a Republican president has to do now is make an official act that they are president for life, the supreme court agrees, and that's that.

The second is that while only the president has immunity (meaning anyone killing people under their official order would still be illegal), the president can also pardon people. So it's a loophole - anyone can kill under their official order, and then the president can just pardon them.

Genie would know you don't desire to die though, or that you would want it in gold, so that wouldn't happen.

For those wondering exactly what these are, I know of them because they were still pretty popular in the 1990s among Hispanics (which my family is). They're basically essential oil perfumes that have supernatural aromatherapy beliefs attached to them. Basically the thought was the scent "attracted" or "emitted" some characteristic, such as attracting luck, or warding off evil. The ingredients were literally just alcohol with oils mixed into them you'd spray or dab on for the pricier stuff, or alcohol with synthetic aromas (and other more questionable ingredients) in the very cheap stuff.

That's also why they have the weird names - to make them seem more foreign in this case but to say what they supposedly do. Bend-Over is known as "El Emperador" or "Reino" (The Emperor or Reign) in Spanish, implying you get the aura or a commanding figure. They chose Bend-Over because just people didn't know the word "capitulate". Scrub's ad description doesn't quite match its name but in other languages it translates basically the same and was supposedly used to wash off "the evil eye" or people's bad vibes / jealousy they'd cast onto you (hence the picture of washing clothes with it).

Has No-Harra is the funniest misinterpretion they did - can't tell if they mixed three languages or two. Harra means "harm", but could also be mistranslated "haras" in Spanish which means "to do", so "No haras" which means "you shall not do" - and that scent was supposed to be to prevent harm being brought to you, like curses and hexes. That one probably went through a game of telephone since "preventing misfortune" probably got translated to "having fortune" would be my guess.

But yeah, spiritual / supernatural aromatherapy has historically been a thing in multiple cultures. If you're Catholic you might have even seen some sort of scent magic still used - the burning of incense at church. Just thought I'd share some of the history and culture behind these things.

Edit: Tl;Dr + extra context: these are "scent magic" perfumes taken from a poor misinterpretation of other cultures and religions that popped off during the age of occultism in the Victoria era

Shipping cost most likely explains the extra 20-40¢

You could also just, idk, by Velcro shoes or get lock laces.

Edit: Got downvoted but that's literally what my mother with arthritis uses. Lock laces and a shoe horn. Lock laces are basically the low tech and reliable version of what these app shoes have.

I think I saw a video once explaining how the only winning move is to make your wish be to let the genie grant you what you desire most.

Because only the genie as the wish granter has access to all possibilities a wish good grant, but you don't, so your wish could always be misinterpreted, while the genies knowledge cannot be.

Imagine how much of a criminal you have to be to end up arrested in a system where you have the advantage as a political criminal tho.

That's how messed up the Republicans are

Rainbow Trout Plate (lemmy.world)
submitted 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

Made this before my mom left back to the states, and had written down the recipe for her.

Cut onions, shallots, sweet onions, and garlic into small pieces. Call

Cut sweet paprika into small pieces separately.

Melt butter in a steel pot on low heat, then add onions, shallots, sweet onions, and garlic to the pot and fry until they sweat. Separate and keep the oil to the side, and put the aromatics back in the pot.

Lower the heat to low, then add smetana, cream of tartar, dill, and a touch of salt, whisking continuously.

Turn off the heat, add a touch of coffee cream to sauce, and continue whisking off heat.

Cut bread loafs and brush them with the oil you set aside earlier, and top them with the cut sweet paprika. Put in an oven preheated to 200°C/390°F and bake until crispy.

Prepare the Brussels sprouts by removing their outer leaves and cutting their ends. Add sesame oil to a small bowl, then add a few drops of truffle oil and 2-4 drops of orange bitters and mix together. Brush the sprouts with the oil mix. Roast in the oven as well, sprinkling some salt on sprouts after they are ready and out of the oven.

Heat a decent amount of rapeseed oil in a pan, and fry fish, flipping only once. Fry skin side first well so it crisps up, then only briefly fry the other side after turning the heat off from the oil.

Plate by adding sauce, and topping it with the fish. Add sauce and bread to the side. You can also garnish the dish with edible flowers.

I don't usually write recipes or amounts but recently I've been doing some experiments so I've loosely written what I did at least, in case my wife wants to recreate the dish with my help when going through chemo.

Mix crushed garlic and tomatoes with chipotle, paprika, umami, onion, and garlic powders, citrus pepper, mint, and dried basil. Then mix in some apricot puree.

Cut Golden Squash into discs, leaving skin on.

Melt butter in an enameled cast iron pan or similar until hot, then fry the discs until browned.

Lower temperature to medium-low heat, flip discs, then add sauce mix evenly and simmer for a while.

Make/buy raviolis, preferably a pork with some fresh herb or pine nut filling.

When ravioli is cooked, layer half onto a plate.

Then, add a layer of cheese, preferably kerma, gouda, or port salt.

Turn heat off from the pan with sauce and squash. Layer the squash on top of cheese and cover with half the sauce.

Layer the rest of the ravioli, and add the rest of the squash.
