Be sure to get a wind angle shot of the shop to set the story. Ask the customers if it's ok to photograph them, maybe ask why they are getting a specific tattoo. Bring a small note book, take notes. Also, have a shot plan.

I've been using PBASE since 2000. I have thousands of images there. You can create galleries and then send the links out to who you want to view them or make them public. Images also get ranked, you can see what other photographers are doing to get inspiration. They also have a camera section with images taken with that specific camera if you are looking to purchase a new camera. Hope this helps.
I've mostly photographed dogs, like others have said get down on the ground to their level. Have someone behind you to get the pets attention. Remember they each will have their own personality. My sister has two dogs, one is camera shy, if she sees a camera, she'll sneak off to another room. The other will roll over onto his back, very submissive. My niece has a dog that will pose when you get the camera out. Crazy! Good luck.
