So I've got an old PC with a SSD for root drive, and then a HDD with 1tb for external.

I've been told linux is the way to go for self-hosting docker containers, whether it be portainer to manage, sonarr, etc.

I'm running into nothing but round arounds with linux and I just can't seem to figure this out. Can I just use windows instead to host my docker images? How can I point to my external drive to host all the docker stuff so my SSD doesn't get crowded?

I'm lost here.

Hello all! I recently turned my old pc into a small server to help get started on this journey i love watching others on! I have gotten ubuntu on there along with docker desktop, however i do have a few issues id need help with:

  • how do I point docker to use my external drive (1 tb) instead of drive os is on? (beginner in linux)
  • how can i setup ubuntu to save my sharing password so i can RDC into it? it currently generates a new PW every startup
  • docker desktop does not keep me signed in and won’t start on startup even with it enabled

i’m wanting to do a small variety of stuff, i.e a dashboard with radarr/sonar for plex.

Any help is appreciated!
