On your home page at Fedia there should be a 'subscribed' tab that's how you see all the communities you subscribed to. To subscribe to a community there should be a 'subscribe' button in the 'sidebar' menu which you can find at the top of the community's page.

Aww :) I have a tuxie too he's the best. Sometimes he lets me tuck him in like this but a lot of the time he'll get up and walk away when I put a blanket over him.

Just a guess but I think active sorts by how active the comment sections of a post are whereas hot seems like it ranks by recent upvotes.

You're incorrect. Local is your local server, all is all servers that your server is federated with.
