It could arguably be worse.

Yep. This is the first legitimate "YouTube premium sucks" I've seen because it's not holding up their end of the transaction.

I haven't seen this happen to me yet and I use YouTube on my PC, my phone, and my TV via Alexa.

I used to mod a smallish minecraft server. Everything you said still applies even to minecraft plus dealing with lots of kids.

I liked the server and I was active so I had no problem doing it. I tried to err on the side of giving people another chance but again people get upset if I don't perma ban the kid who accidentally destroyed one block and fixed it.

I don't particularly like being in a position of power but I did like being able to help moderate a server I enjoyed.

Yeah. I can only see myself using reddit if it's in a goole search or something. I will not be using it recreationally anymore. I find kbin to be a nice change of pace.

I know for mastodon, you can move your account over to other mastodon instances while keeping all your data and such.

Is there currently a way to do that with kbin? In case I wanted to branch out to a more niche instance but keep my profile and messages and subscribed magazines and such?

@Otome-chan@kbin.social ohhh, is that what the "federation status On | Off" does?

Okay, so that's good to know for when I want to change up what I see. Thanks! (assuming I understood correctly!)

My guess is they are the kind of person who thinks free speech is the one and ultimate truth in life. Also free speech means "I can use slurs and bully people to suicide but if you call me a bigot then you don't appreciate free speech" without realizing the irony of not accepting the free speech of others.

Seen it so many times.

I remember having a bus come every hour. If you miss that bus, then oops you're an hour late for work.

If you run 5 minutes late in your car, then you are 5 minutes late for work.

Also if you have to take 3 or so busses to connect somewhere, depending on how the scheduling worked out, you could get unlucky and have an hour wait between bus 1 & 2 and an hour wait between bus 2 & 3.

Taxis cost a decent amount of money here.

Uber/Lyft/etc are hit and miss. App says if you need to be somewhere at 9am, to request the ride at like 8:30 or whatever. And when you do, you don't get anyone showing up or someone will grab your ride, not come to you for 10 minutes, and then put your request for a ride back out there for someone else to grab.

I see for the home page, we can either have: Subscribed (magazines we sub to), All (everything in the fediverse?), Moderated (Magazines we moderate), and Favourites.

Two options I'm looking for are:

  1. seeing everything just in kbin.social

  2. Seeing everything from any instance in kbin. (So stuff like kbin.info would show up, but lemmy and beehaw wouldn't)

Is there currently some way to do either of these? I know Mastodon lets you organize that way, so if you're in something like mstdn.games, then you can view everything from that specific community only. I think it's called "Local" over there.

I haven't found it or can't find anyone talking about it, yet. So I'm wondering if I'm just missing some obvious way to sort my home page that way.

Also, let me know if this is better suited for a different magazine!

Google is already an awful search engine and was most useful only for reddit. Search Engine Optimization killed it.

For example, do you know why every recipe Google shows has a 35 page life story article before the recipe? Because it takes you longer to scroll through the page and find the recipe and see if that's what you want. So Google says oh, this website is good and entertaining and full of so many words! This goes higher up! They don't write the stories because the bloggers care. They write stories because it's the only way to get their website seen on Google.

Meanwhile the website you actually want... The one with a simple recipe and no fluff? Well that's not going to sell itself to the Search Engine Optimization. So it's much further down on the list, several pages down.

The same shitification is happening with every website. Every website is a little bit worse than it has to be simply to optimize it's position on the almighty Google.

When you look for the "top shoes for running" or "best phone of 2023", those are just rushed articles with no research done by people with the sole purpose of pumping out millions of articles just to get some spots on Google.

Google was only good for linking to reddit because reddit could never get their search engine working no matter how many times they tried it.

Exactly. Instead of being a reddit user and admins ban a bunch of subs that can no longer be accessed at all, you can still access those instances with another account.

Reddit can in the future ban NSFW content and there is nothing you can do to view those subreddits ever again.

Not the case here.

Vulcan has made a great choice and habit.

Same here. Without third party apps, the reddit browsing experience comes back to similar to this or a horrendous official app. So I may as well use an alternative, anyway.

Things were only getting worse. And this was a great excuse to do so.
