Sure, but that only works if you're purchasing a VPN that follows the same law. My VPN couldn't give a fuck less about my country's legislation
It is, however, an issue if the website you're watching your movie on is doing other things in the background; like using the HTTPS connection to rip info about your device
Free accounts do work just fine but if I remember correctly you end up with slightly lower sound quality
