I run NixOS, which is linux. I haven't noticed any sleep problems, but the AMD processor is also a lot better at sipping power.

Well I don't really play using the panel, but from when I do use it I don't think that that ghosting is really that bad is bad enough to really care. It hasn't really changed anything for me. The graphics quality is usually lower anyway so your expectations aren't going to crisp graphics.

7840u w/ 780M is pretty beastly considering this is integrated. Well optimized titles run really well on it. I play on external monitors.

It does struggle to drive higher resolutions, probably due to low VRAM. Normally I cap out at 1080p. If you find it chugging just consider lowering the resolution to 1080p or 720p.

Make sure you're using two RAM sticks, it's super important.

Fans whir but I never noticed any thermal throttling, even when my cat takes naps on it.

Do a memcheck. Freezes are often due to faulty ram.

I would run an officially support distro, but if you're not new to linux land I definitely recommend at least looking into Arch, or something Arch based, like EndeavourOS.

Yes you can, and I did, with the 13th gen intel board. With Windows is straight plug and play. Make sure you install nvidia/amd drivers.

It feels pretty close to Dell XPS if you've ever used one of those. Not quite Apple level but still pretty good.

Yeah, I've never seen a laptop put together with so much attention and care.

I have had more issues with Linux, but I use it for everything I can. Honestly Windows is just ridiculous sometimes.

AMD has better linux compatibility and honestly a 7840u is just a really good chip.

7840u has been pretty great but it's not going to top an m3.

Ultimately it's going to come down to which you prefer more, repairability or speed. And being locked into Apple's ecosystem.
