No, it’s a portrayal of how women were treated not long ago everywhere. And the ending hints at how women are mostly treated now. Dunno man, maybe we didn't watch the same movie.

I don’t think the movie “hates” on men thought.

Sorry for misunderstanding, I should've been more clear: I do use extensions, namely uBlock, Tampermonkey and bitwarden, but I was also using them when everything ran smooth.
What I meant I didn't quite understand was "try creating a vanilla prefix (firefox -P), then testing it there".

[–] [email protected] 18 points 1 year ago

Yup, pretty much. And most of the times I've seen right wing people just come comment the most batshit crazy thing imaginable. This doesn't mean left wing lunatics don't exist too.

You're in for a bad ride then. There will always be politics in some magazines/threads.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Could you be more specific? I kind of get what you are saying, but I didn't test extensions until now so it's kind of an alien language.

I had it happen both on kbin and federated threads. I'll link one when I encounter this again.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I mean, that hardly can count as gay (͠≖ ͜ʖ͠≖)

As the title says I've noticed that in the past day kBin often freezes up when I view a thread (Firefox pops up asking me if I want to stop the tab or not). I use Firefox on EndeavourOS but I didn't have any problems with it for the past 2 weeks.

Is anyone else encountering this/is it a new bug?

He said he’s using Arch so it should be available. I got it on my EndeavourOS and I’m really satisfied.

I grew such hatred for this man in the past years I wish he would just ruin himself and not hear a delusional thing from him ever again.

Glad to hear man, I'm in a bit of a reading slumber sadly, but I'm happy others are better ◝(ᵔᵕᵔ)◜

Hey everyone, a while ago I made [this post] (https://kbin.social/m/linux/t/108370/Help-me-find-a-fitting-distro) asking for recommandations of distros. After some considerable thinking I went ahead and chose EndeavourOS (with Gnome) due to wanting an experience as close to Arch as possible but having some handholding at the installation process.

I also chose to dual boot Windows11 for some games that can't be run on Linux (looking at you Valorant). Anyway, here are the impressions of the first 2 days of daily driving EndeavourOS:

Pros:

  • right of the bat I had better driver support than on W11, namely I could connect directly to WiFi, without having to plug the Ethernet in, download and install the WiFi driver and then connect to WiFi.
  • very pleasant GUI installer
  • fantastic look and feel, it's been a while since I've enjoyed exploring a piece of software this much
  • the amount of customization: it was a blast theming everything with rose-pine
  • better performance while gaming: admittedly, I don't game much besides League of Legends/CSGO, but I got much better performance on League than when I was on W11 (this is due to a strange bug on W11 that made LoL not run on the dedicated GPU no matter what I tried)

Cons:

  • for now I can't consider anything as a downside as I think it's too early to make a distinction between my incompetence and the OS's limitations.

Fuck ups:

  • first time when I installed EndeavourOS I didn't select grub as the bootloader, so I was like ??? when I didn't get to select the booting OS
  • I can't quite select a good font-size for Firefox. It's either too small, or everything too big
  • not knowing how to properly set the theme so I at some point had the same theme, but in different flavors across different apps
  • I installed Bing Wallpaper extension for Gnome but I couldn't configure it to only change the lockscreen image (this was one of my favorite W11 things), if any of you could help, I'd greatly appreciate

That's it for now, I'll come back with an update after I get to fiddle around with Endeavour a bit more.

Hi everyone,
I moved from W11 to EndeavourOS as daily driver and I encountered the following problem while installing LoL using the official tutorial with Lutris https://leagueoflinux.org/install/lutris/: after the client would finish downloading and I exited it the installation would remain stuck indefinitely.

Turns out for it to finish you either have to exit the client from the system tray or kill the process from terminal. Then everything works fine.

PS: I'm dumbfucked by the fact that LoL runs better on EndeavourOS than it did on W11.

Hello there!

After some lurking on r/Unixporn and its Discord, I'm more and more tempted to try Linux as a daily driver. While I'm by no means a pro, I've been using WSL at work the past year and generally I can fiddle around finding solutions when something doesn't work.

These being said, the main requirements I would have from a distro is to be able to run League of Legends (saw that it's pretty straight forward using Lutris) and not be insanely complex from the get-go (wouldn't want to jump straight into something like Arch), I intend to use something like Hyprland.

So far I am split between OpenSuse Tumbleweed, NixOS, Fedora and EndeavourOS, but would gladly hear alternatives.

LE: Read (and tried to reply to) most messages. I will come back with an update once I decide my pick and see how it goes. Thanks everyone!

While reading this article https://kbin.social/m/[email protected]/t/97300/Consulation-sur-la-direction-de-cette-communaute I observed OP said something about the community being over 1000 members, yet in the sidebar it was showing to me (in kBin) there were only 92. I double checked by going to lemmy.world and those 92 were ONLINE subscribers.

Has anyone else encountered this bug?

I think many of you know the feeling of being in a reader's slumber: you both want to read but whatever you are reading right now just isn't cutting it. This was my case for the past months: while I absolutely loved reading The Karamazov Brothers, I barely made any progress due to it being quite a dense book and me being stressed with my Bachelor's Thesis.

But here comes Elena Ferrante with her (?) My Brilliant Friend. A very easy to read book that is also filled with depth. Maybe my recent trip to Napoli, the city in which the book's story takes place, had an effect on me, but I loved the way Ferrante paints the post-war city with all its harsh conditions: poverty, violence, lack access to education, young girls' being treated as sort of a commodity, while boys are forced to work from a young age to help their families and so much more.

It's really refreshing to read women written by a woman (presumably, as Ferrante is just a nickname and her true identity isn't public) and it already feels (at least for me) as a classic despite being written a mere decade ago. I'm looking forward to finishing the other 3 of the Neapolitan Novels, but Ferrante is already on my best authors.

Didn't have this problem the past days, but today I got notifications from people replying to my comments. I click on them, and it navigates me to the article's page, but I cannot see the replies to my comments.
Just as to make sure they are not deleted I navigated to those user's profile and saw that the comments indeed exist, but are not displayed correctly on the article.
Happened with a reply from someone on lemmy and someone from kbin.
Anyone else experiencing this?

LE: seems to only happen in Tree view of the comments, don't know if this is a new feature or not. Classic and Chat views work fine.

First of all I would like to suggest to @ernest to take a day or two break from working on kbin and in general to not overwork himself.
Secondly, some sort of Patreon should be setup to streamline the donation process. I, probably like many others would like to just set up a recurring donation and forget about it.
Thirdly, I think it would be great we also have something like https://beehaw.org/post/428209 to keep this as transparent as possible.

Seems like the federation was turned on not long ago. It's very exciting to be part of kbin's growth!
