It was pretty easy to find lists of half-life CD keys to play team fortress and counter strike for free.
Quake world & the quake fortress addon were fun and predates any CD key system so they could be easily found for free too.

For now you can use vpns to certain countries that don't have ads at all, I expect that will still work to avoid server side ads.
It's called DASH protocol and it's designed to only have a small adaptive bandwidth buffer. The whole video will never buffer, only a small percentage of it.
No you have to edit the file for CD metadata and convert it to flac so you can pretend it was ripped from a CD, as is P2P file sharing tradition. Bonus pts if you put it through some filter to introduce a bunch of noise into the audio. Then ask in chat how you can convert a 128kbps mp3 to flac to increase the quality. Priceless.
