if that screenshot of the mod log isn’t leaving out important context then this looks pretty bad, hexbear users aren’t alone in seeing a decent amount of reactionary language and talking points here in the past few weeks. in all fairness tho most of it probably isn’t intentional

I agree with almost everything you said here, even though I don’t participate in any of the communities on that instance I would probably start looking for another instance to use if we go through with defederation. I’d like to be able to participate in discussion with queer folk and other leftists (including those that I have differing opinions from) across all of lemmy because to me that’s the value of using a federated platform in the first place.

I’d also like to note that I’m not a “tankie” or a ML for the sake of clarity, but I do value left unity because none of these reductive arguments over international politics actually matter when you’re doing real work and helping others, which is what this is all about in the first place.

it’s pretty widely known that its a toxic hellscape there, i’ve typically had great interactions with users in dm’s but the chatrooms have become overrun with toxicity and fascists over the past decade, it’s absolutely not representative of the online music community which is largely left leaning, even on p2p and piracy platforms

the blind support of US imperialism and colonialism and anti-left sentiment from users of my instance in this thread is really disappointing to see, i expected better.

leftist space has a specific meaning that goes past the political positions of the userbase averaging out to be progressive. lemmy for the most part is somewhat left leaning, although there’s definitely an abundance of right wing and liberal users, but my point is it doesn’t have many open spaces dedicated to activism or on the ground work since the majority of communities that are left leaning are more preoccupied with out of touch online discourse than real world action

seems like its home to a lot of irony poisioned predominantly white leftists but i think comparing it to t_d is a stretch.

i wonder if theres any leftist instances that are worth spending time on, theres not very many of them and it seems like the ones that are out there either have started to die out or have been widely defederated from due to toxicity.

i wish there were larger spaces focused around real world political action, organization and solidarity because there would be so much value in having that on a platform like this.

for me the biggest hurdle was getting used to the ui, adobe is definitely the best with ease of use and layout, but so far ive found the feature set to be solid for photo editing and quick gfx work, i definitely miss camera raw and some of the non destructive editing features but gimp has gotten a lot better over the last couple years, especially on the current beta as theyre getting close to the 3.0 launch. definitely not the best choice for everyone but i think it has its niche

im skeptical with the amount of people on the original forum and github saying the cracker had bundled malware with it at some point

i used to run an older version of cc (i think it was cc2018 where u just had to swap a dll to make it think u had an infinite trial) and then recently i’ve switched to gimp and inkscape and haven’t looked back.

i’d honestly recommend foss alternatives for anyone who does gfx and photo stuff as a hobby over the adobe cc just for how much quicker and relatively stable they are

so far i’ve had good experiences with it, definitely not the most privacy focused option out there but they have a decent track record and its cheap. i think the usual advice of not putting anything super sensitive on a cloud storage service still holds, but for most things it should be fine

your best bet is probably just seeing if u have any friends with an account that can rip them for you or share the login with you
