The rich don't get rich by saving more or spending less: though it is an advantage when they choose to use it.
The rich get rich by exploiting the labor (or income from labor) of those less fortunate than them.
Agreed. With the nature of the Fediverse, defederating with anything from Meta doesn't really restrict access for those who actually wish to interact with them. They can simply join their next nefarious venture.
The drawbacks to interacting with a company that so obviously only chases profit above all else far outweigh any "benefits " of their content.

Yeah, it was in the news, but considerably less attention was paid to this event where hundreds died compared to a few rich people who spent exorbitant amounts of money to look at a shipwreck on a TV screen in an unsafe submersible.
A pretty dismal reflection on our societal values.
