Contact paper may work but in my exp they tend to have a yellow tint..also they have no UV protection so if the sun hits it it will really yellow and break down

Just buy a piece of clear vinyl or go to a paint shop/car wrapping shop and get a piece of clear bra/paint protection film

I use it on all my builds

If a panel breaks it holds all/99.9999 % of the pieces together

If flat cover it with paint or vinyl

If embossed /indented

Remove the shroud and eith sand flat...or fill with body filler
