From memory this project is somewhat abandoned. But it's a cool idea.
So, like the crown on my Apple Watch? It’s great!
The Logitech Craft has it. Really loved the knob even though I only ever used it for volume.
you can buy these (search amazon for usb knob) and of course, you can buy much more complicated devices that also include knobs - like say loupedeck
