I haven't had the chance to attend a local tournament yet but I would like to. I could imagine playing irl would have this affect on anyone.
How do you usually find out abt local tournaments? Is there any websites/forums you'd recommend?

Back in the day there was the shoryuken forums. I managed to find mine back then and stayed connected through the Facebook group. Nowadays, I think you need to find their Discord. that’s a good resource. i would add to also just search on google for your town/city/area fgc on facebook. boo fb, but it’s still the de facto place for advertising spaces for shared niche interests.
it’s the only way i was able to find out that my locals have started again with sf6 for the first time since the pandemic.
As much as I've been trying to avoid fb, this makes sense so I'll take a look.
Discord, Facebook, Start.gg has a feature called tournaments near me try one of those. Happy to hear you would like attend a local 😁

I've been playing Street Fighter since SFII, and I still get nervous in Ranked. It comes and goes, depending on the opponent, what's on the line, etc., but the only time I don't have any nerves is against the computer.
For me, as hard as this might seem, Street Fighter has always been more of a single-player experience, since there weren't many arcades near me when I was a teenager, and nobody really wanted to play on the Genesis.
I heard about having to use the Select button to switch between punches and kicks on the Genesis, I can see why it didn't catch on as much as the SNES version did! I'm glad the Battlehub is available, it does seem to be substitute for that arcade experience. I've mostly met decent folks on there but have ran into an occasional asshole as well.
I'll play sets with my brother who also plays. It gives a more open and friendly environment for me to try new things, get immediate feedback, and not worry as much.
I feel you on the Ranked. I have to remind myself before each Ranked match that I'm playing for fun and that overtime I will improve, even if I lose that match now.
Back in the Genesis days, I invested in a 6-button controller, but I only had one, which is maybe one reason nobody wanted to play with me! The layout was actually better than the SNES, and the direction pad was really good.
So far, I haven't really experienced any jerks while playing. In Battle Hub, I run in to some people who are just way better than me and I'll get completely destroyed, but I haven't seen any teabagging yet, etc. Sometimes if I'm getting completely decimated, I secretly hope my opponent will let up a bit so I can try some things, but they don't really owe me that.
Ranked is stressful, but as many say, at least in Ranked you are more or less facing off against people in the same skill ballpark. I just went up to Silver for the first time. I know if I go on a losing streak and it looks like I'll get demoted, I'll feel the nerves, but I'll get over it and hopefully come back and go up again.
As a new player and tournament goer myself. Nerves suck the longer you go the better you get at at handling them at least in my experience.
