How does something like this (which is mostly brilliant) go through dozens of stages of approval and end up with a 4K 60Hz fixed refresh rate screen?
1440p 144Hz/165Hz VRR would have hit the nail on the head.

That SKU is $850-$950 USD. That's a pretty competitive price for someone looking for an all-in-one. Just a damn shame about the screen, really lets the build down.
Most likely made for artists/designers, who might not care about high refresh rate, and instead prefer a higher resolution with good color accuracy.

I think it's probably a case of marketing thinking it'll sell better if they slap "4K" on the box instead of making optimal use of the hardware. Gotta love those marketing boys.

Plug it into an external monitor and use the built in one for chrome lol
This is cool. I wouldn't buy one but it's nice to see some innovative stuff.
I think a mini PC with similar specs would have broader appeal.
I've been looking for AiO PC for my parents to replace the ancient 17 inch laptop with 2nd gen i7 in it because they haven't used the portability of a laptop ever, it's basically been a desktop replacement for them for 12 years, and most laptops nowadays don't come with 17 inch screens anymore (only few expensive ones do and even with a 16 inch you're lucky to find an affordable one) so AiOs which are at least 24 inches are the way to go for them.
You might be better served by mounting a mini-PC on the back of a monitor. Daniel Owen on youtube has done a few reviews on them. You'd probably have fewer headaches from a serviceability standpoint.
I wish more high performance aios were a thing with a few caveats like upgradability
