Data Hoarder

We are digital librarians. Among us are represented the various reasons to keep data -- legal requirements, competitive requirements, uncertainty of permanence of cloud services, distaste for transmitting your data externally (e.g. government or corporate espionage), cultural and familial archivists, internet collapse preppers, and people who do it themselves so they're sure it's done right. Everyone has their reasons for curating the data they have decided to keep (either forever or For A Damn Long Time (tm) ). Along the way we have sought out like-minded individuals to exchange strategies, war stories, and cautionary tales of failures.

About 2 years ago I started using and even paid for a license for 4K Downloader. It was nice because I could copy and paste a few links to videos from a channel and it would allow me to download the whole channel from there. I could even have it run in smart mode or whatever it's called so any new videos from channels I had previously pulled, would auto download at whatever quality I set. Is there any good replacement for this? I like the automation portion quite a bit

I use jDownloader 2 mostly. Just grab the video, playlist or channel's URL, paste it in jDownloader 2 and you're good to go.

If you use docker I can't recommend this one enough

https://github.com/Tzahi12345/YoutubeDL-Material

works with youtube, vimeo, tiktok, and some others. You can also make playlists that when get updated it will grab from.

I've been working on this since March 2023. I've been a bit busy and it's not finished (there's a lot of features missing) but it'll do the job.

https://github.com/samstarnes/vdm

If you can follow the installation guide it'll work fine but no promises on when I get the next set of features implemented (trying to integrate meilisearch into it.)

Otherwise I recommend cli yt-dlp.
