Yeah, the hope is gone. Time for acceptance. We're shit. That's the status quo. We just can't play better. We'll have to wait for a whole new generation of players who hopefully are better educated tactically.

Austria looked very good though. Very solid team.

Germany has been bad before. Like I remember 2002 when Germany was dominated by every single team except Saudia Arabia. A combination of superhuman performances by Kahn, Ballack and Klose. Especially Kahn. I mean he became another german household name. I used to play as a goal keeper locally and in college in Bangladesh. I played alright. People called me Oliver Kahn. Every good goal keeper in the area was called Oliver Kahn. Thats how much impact that 2002 world cup oliver kahn performance had on people's mind. Only goal keeper to win golden ball.

The players were not amazing or flashy. They were just alright and solid. Unlike this team which is second guessing themselves and looks very confused. Those players had a low ceiling of how good they could be thus the poor performance against Italy and Spain. Players like Tim Borowski, Marco Janssen, Arne Freidrich, Benedict Howedes, Oliver Neuville are not flashy or amazing to look but they did their job well. But they were definitely the best in the world. I miss those worker style players in this Germany team
