I have an MSI Pro B660M-A motherboard and a 12600 (non-K) CPU with 3070Ti, Corsair RM650 PSU, and 4x8gb 3200Mhz DDR4 RAM.

I want to maximize the potential of this build by upgrading to the 14600k, as I can get one for very cheap this coming holiday sale. Is this a good upgrade or I should just stay with my 12600 and save the money?

according to userbenchmarks (which is deeply flawed in general, but here it's a good indicator), the 14600k is only 13% better for 300 euros. in general, CPUs can stay relevant for more than 5 years, i know someone who was still sucessfully running a 3000-gen intel CPU until recently. yes, you're somewhat leaving performance on the table, but in reality most games you'll play will most likely be GPU limited anyway. buying a 14600k will not result in 13% more FPS, if it results in FPS gains at all. you should wait at least 2 more generations before upgrading.

Not worth the money, get either the 13600K (it is the same as the 14600K basically) if you want to go for gaming performance (although DDR4 will limit your gain) or get the 14700K if you want better productivity performance.

Otherwise stick with what you have and consider getting either 15th gen or Zen 5 chips when they come out.

I think the chipset in your motherboard doesn't allow overclocking? Am I wrong? that's why you have the non K version of the 12th gen, so you would have to get a non k version of the 14th gen. But I may be wrong.

With a 3070Ti you are likely to be GPU bottlenecked rather than CPU. So you are probably not going to much, if any, of a performance increase with the 14600K.

Can you overclock and undervolt non "k" intel cpu in b660 board?
