A place to talk about roller coasters and parks that have them. Everyone is welcome here to both learn and to celebrate these magnificent machines designed to scare you.

Here are some important resources:

  1. RCDB
  2. Thrill Data
  3. Coast2Coaster
  4. Terminology and Abbreviations

Images are welcome if they are of high quality and it doesn't get out of hand. Please use PostImages to upload your image and then use that link in the URL field of your post (other image sites are permitted but Post Images has the best policies and compatibility).

Some basic rules:

  1. Opinions, theories, and facts are all welcome – but be clear about what you’re saying.

  2. Back up facts with sources as much as possible

  3. No spam or sell-promotion. Linking to your own media or site is permissible only if it’s specifically related to a topic/post that someone else created.

  4. No photos or videos taken on the rides. This is dangerous and shouldn't be encouraged.

  5. Limit political discussion. When discussed it must be park related.

  6. No fictional coasters (models, no limits, planet coaster, etc)

  7. No posting personal information.

  8. No shaming of anyone. We all can continue to learn and not everyone knows everything -- and that's ok.

If you've never checked out DefunctLand on Youtube, what are you waiting for? By far one of my favorite channels.... Actually one of the few that I regularly watch.

This article takes a dive in Kevin's work on the channel and highlights a lot of interesting things.

Love Defunctland, glad he's been getting so much attention. The Defunctland episode on the history of Coney Island was so informative and entertaining. I still need to catch up on his Fast Pass episode that everybody seems to rave about.

I've been subscribed for a while. It's good.

yes, they sound long and boring at first, but one quickly get's sucked in to the stories he tells. This is truly one of the few relatively unknown gems on youtube. Another one is Technology Connections BTW

Now that we got 2 of the 5 channels on Youtube that I watch (Defunctland and Technology Connections) I might as well mention CoasterBot, Aging Wheels, and El Toro Ryan

I sat though the Disney FastPass video recently and that was quite an interesting adventure

I actually had meant to watch it a while back but forgot about it.... The article reminded me and I'm currently half way through it 😀

It was great.... Crazy in depth. I then moved on to the Disney Channel theme episode and that blew my mind even more. His research skills (and team) are incredible.

I realized that the only reason why I was not interested in theme parks before, was because nobody told me about them in an interesting manner.

I honestly think so much of amusement parks goes unexperienced because coasters over shadow everything. Don't get me wrong.... Coasters are huge part but the pursuit of coasters can often cause people to overlook history, culture, less-known attractions, shows, and so on. After watching things like Defunctland it's hard to look at things in the same way you always had before - and most of the time that's a very good thing.
