it's organic, it's much cheaper to cram the LEDs in small pens and grow them there than let them graze freely...

Are you looking for lower or higher refresh rates?
240hz 4k OLED is probably never gonna come down much in price my friend.
All existing mainstream OLED monitors are first gen models. When second gen models arrive, we'll see what happens with pricing. They are all over priced compared to OLED TVs. But they are niche and priced accordingly.
It probably comes down to supply being squeezed for a niche where people will often settle for a higher refresh lcd instead, for larger panels tv is obviously taking up supply and for smaller screens you have laptops taking up that side of the supply.
I disagree, Asus are putting them in pretty much all laptops. The 34" UW from Dell (freesync version) is very cheap and makes it a no brainer compared to LCD options.
Bro that monitor is 800 dollars and you think that's cheap? My monitor is 250--I could buy three for that price.
I love insanely out of touch comments from rich people in this sub lmao
The prices of these are dropping pretty regularly. I believe there was an AW3423DW for less than $800 just yesterday.
In general though, the technology they're using for these panels are constantly improving. The OLED panels of today are much better than the OLED panels of 5 years ago, whereas LCD panel technology has mostly plateaued (can't think of any exciting new improvements here).
"IPS black" seems to be a good improvement, but IIRC there is only one IPS black monitor with above 60Hz refresh rate and it came out last month.
Its not that OLED is expensive but rather LCD is THAT cheap.
OLED montiors is no more expensive than LCDs when they first came onto the scene in the early 2000s, probably cheaper inflation adjusted.
ive seen prices come down. i remember a few years ago getting my 55" b9 used for $675 being a good deal. Now i think the b2 sells for like $1000 new and i see used 48" all the time for like 400-500.
Give it a little time. We’re steadily moving from niche to mainstream now.
Technology is advancing at a snail's pace. I've been expecting oled for 20 years now
definitely much slower pace of progress. I am expecting microleds to leapfrog and skip oled entirely
I can say this, I just bought an S90C and was lucky enough to get a second gen QD-OLED panel with my tv. It is a lot better than my Samsung Neo G7, but it's not enough for me to care most of the time. It's also not enough for me to care to risk burn in of having the S90C being my main driver. I run a 100 ft cable and a KVM switch to it so I can play PC games on it, but if were on my desk at 32 inches it would be a lot better, but not enough for me to care really.
The Alienware ultrawides have dropped about a third of their price since release.
Because OLED is expensive to make.
They are not expensive though. Right now the highly rated Alienware AW3423DWF 34” 3400x1440 QD-OLED can be bought for very similar to a comparable LCD.
It is not produced by China yet. But it will be in a year or so.
