I just received my Framework 13 AMD 7840U and I am experiencing weird screen artifacts/tearing/flickering under PopOs kernel 6.5.6. I have upgraded to the latest bios 3.03

screen flickering not connected to 4k monitor. All CPU cores idle

My setup is as follows:

Dual boot Win11/PopOs 22.04

64GB RAM Kingston Furry CL40

4TB Samsung 990 Pro

The screen flickering is more prominent when I connect my 4k monitor. Although it does happen randomly when I am not connected.

I mainly use my laptop for software development and wouldn't consider my workflow to be graphically intensive. However, my research lead me to this article which seems to have fixed the issue: https://knowledgebase.frame.work/allocate-additional-ram-to-igpu-framework-laptop-13-amd-ryzen-7040-series-BkpPUPQa

As suggested in the article, I have set my IGPU config in the bios to UMA_Game_Optimized and so far so good.

But why? My workflow isn't graphically intensive. I mainly compile code.

As this is a new machine, I want to rule out any hardware issues/defects. I have not contacted support yet, as it seems to be software related.

It hasn't happen under Windows 11 but then again I have not spent enough time under Windows to be conclusive.

Any suggestions/explanations as to why I am experiencing this is appreciated.

Thanks
