"He is second in the standings and delivers good races, which distinguishes him from Nyck de Vries

Ouch. Dude.

The line after that, "there is no available to replace him," was especially shocking since they do have Riccardo just sitting there

Not a great sign for Tsunoda either.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Can you honestly see Tsunoda at RBR? Sure he has his qualities and good moments. But overall I think he's too inconsistent.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Not next year, no.

If he gets a new contract and has a good 2024 (comfortably beats the competition etc.) then he might have a shot for 2025.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I think he deserves a chance, even just for a weekend or practice session

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm still unconvinced by him tbh. He has clearly improved a lot but I'm not sure he's good enough for Red Bull. If he keeps improving then he might get a chance at some point though.

If I had to guess I'd say:

2024: Verstappen and Perez 2025: Verstappen and Tsunoda/Ricciardo/Lawson 2026: Verstappen and Norris (long term)

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Why would Norris go from being team leader to Marko's punching bag? Marko made sure the car and team focused all energy on Vettel at the expense of Webber and the same to Verstappen vs his teammates. Even when Ricciardo was faster he wasn't given a fair shake. Better off staying at McLaren. I mean unless Marko retires, which...fingers crossed

Why would Norris go from being team leader to Marko's punching bag?

To win races and compete at the front of the grid. Being a team leader of an average and inconsistent McLaren team is unlikely to win him anything beyond a few odd podium trophies per season.

Didn't Ricciardo recently say he didn't want to get swapped in this season? He'd rather do the full next season instead of struggling to get up to speed.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Ricciardo was too slow in the sim. So he will have to up his game some way to get back in the car. Would love to see in form Ricciardo back though.

Brutal, but not unexpected. T’is the Red Bull way. Which, honestly, I think is preferable to the humble bragging, corporate style bullshit, or straight-up nepotism you get from some of the other teams…

Couldn’t agree more. At least in Helmut Marko’s case.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Yeah, but it's true. I had hoped Nyck would deliver some better races, but at the moment it's just not good enough.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Well, guess he had that decision made up already.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

There is also no one available to replace him

Danny Ric?

McLaren drained the poor man

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 year ago

I don't believe that really. Yes he was poor at McLaren, but he was fast at RBR and Renault. He won multiple races with RBR, and even one with McLaren. He's definitely better than Perez and Tsunoda.

Letting the tyre temp drop didn't help though

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Perez was sitting stationary for around 8mins (you could argue 10min+ given he didn't box after the red flag). Sargeant for around 7 minutes. I don't think either had any tyre temp and yet Sargeat got out of q1.

Perez was suggesting yesterday that it's the conditions which he doesn't like. 4 of the last 5 quali's have been wet I think.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

Non-ideal conditions can be a reason for qualifying 4th rather than 2nd where he should be, there's just no excuse for not making Q3 in the fastest car.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Throws out any arguments for tyre warmers really.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Fully agree for dry tires

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

that it’s the conditions which he doesn’t like

that may be but you gotta deal with it perez, just like everyone else
