This may be old news for you guys, but I just noticed this now while rewatching the old PoE2 trailers. Really weird looking thing, seriously what am I looking at here

It is the Seed of Corruption. The old trailer mentions it.

Seems like our old pal may be in need of a fresh proctology exam in PoE 2.
There is also the cloaked man with glowing blue eyes in the trailers. If this is the Beast maybe he's associated with Sin somehow.
In the last demo at exilecon he took a role like Sin where he was guiding the player to fight the seed of corruption and save Wraeclast. His mannerisms and design are a lot more reminiscent of Shaper though.
Another connection that The Hooded One might have with Sin is that he had the Seed of Corruption in his possession until it was stolen by Count Ogham (based on stream footage from the first Exilecon).
I still hate how it's literally a big Roman numeral II with an eye in the middle
