As a very long time DCSS player I've recently discovered and been having a ton of fun with Zorbus, which I found on Steam. It isn't intended to be a DCSS 2 but it does feel like one in a lot of ways. It's paid, but dirt cheap. I recommend it.

Great game. It's packed with both fun and frustration.
I got caught up in ADOM back when I was on a Nethack-like kick.
If you want to try something a little different, check out Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead. I spent so much time with that.
C:DDA is my go to. Works great on Steam Deck.
