original base set starter deck, so, probably that 1st edition foil machamp was on top.

Yep, that's the first I remember. I also remember pulling out the instructions, not understanding how to play the game, and then never thinking about it again because none of my peers ever wanted to play anyway. It was primarily just about collecting and trading. Kinda wild, really. We were in like 2nd-5th grade at the time, though.
I remember I was in 6th grade and one of my friends was like "hey want a bunch of cards?" And he pulled out a blue pencil case full of them. I never knew how to play the game either. I just collected them too. There was one dude who had a whole deck of EX pokemon and he gave me the Reshiram just cause. He was like literally "pick one" it was so surreal. But yeah I tried to play Pokemon for real with a friend and neither of us understood it
Oh man that sounds so cool
Given that most people get Pokémon cards in packs of, at least, 15, and their first is usually a whole deck, I dunno if you could really get a lot of people who remember their first card, I definitely don’t! My favourite is definitely Growlithe, but I have no recollection of what my first cards were really, it’s too long ago!
Oh man Growlithe is one of my favs too! That was one of the first Pokemon that my friend introduced me to. Those were simpler times... But about the cards, yeah, that's true. I didn't actually start buying cards until recently, so my collection hasn't increased by packs or anything
Mine was the chubby Pikachu that had the purple accents!
Whoa I've never seen that! That sounds so neat!
My first was Machop. My favourite was Charizard. Loved collecting and playing with Pokémon cards. Good times!
Yep! I just love the cool art and personality of the mons. Good times indeed
I was given an Abra and a… I forget in school. First two.
Favorite is my either my Ancient Mew from the movie theater or my gold-rimmed Meowth from the fruit rollups boxes.
Whoa, movie theater pokemon cards! That sounds so cool
Back in the day! I miss when Pokemon wasn’t just a yearly cash cow of bottom quality games to sell merch like cards.
Fr. The vibe is so different now
The Dark Magician /s
I have the Armored Mewtwo card, so that’s my favorite, but my first was a requaza I believe.
Nice. Rayquaza is always cool. I've never seen an armored Mewtwo before!
Yeah, armored mewtwo is one of my favorite designs. The pack also came with a mutated charizard or something.

My first card was that promo card (mew?) that they gave out when the first movie came out. My only other card is a sudowoodo, so it’s hard to choose a favorite. Nostalgia vs. a rock that camouflages itself as a tree for some inconceivable purpose. Actually, I think that description settled it. Fav is sudowoodo.
Nice.
My first was a Rattata from bootleg pack since Grandma didn't know better. Favorite was a foil Kabutops in Japanese.
Oh man the bootlegs. I have some with misspelled names. I have a fake Vulpix with reflective edges but they messed up the back colors and the font at the bottom. And the foreign language cards are always neat!
It was a rattata. I bought the gen one duel set. I was a kid, that was the first card on top. From my memory. I think it also had like a Meowth, a holo Machamp.I think was the rare. Super fuzzy memory on the details. This is the set that came with the blue and red glass counters.
Oh man Gen 1. I don't think I even knew what pokemon was back then. I might not have even been born! How long has pokemon existed anyway? Now I'm actually curious to see what Gen was going on when I first got into Pokemon... also Rattata is one of my favs too.
I'm too old to have collected Pokémon cards.
Nothing says you can't start now!
