Coming over from reddit...

This is my test community in this new decentralized neat thing. TacoButtPlug came about from something amazing they're selling on etsy... But I originally wanted HypnoToad as my Lemmy handle... < /me glares at whoever took it>

This community is honestly just going to be a bunch of ramblings from a crazy person whose in school for something medical science related, already worked a career in human rights for a long ass time, been a database slut since early 00s, a cat/dog/squirrel/bird/whatever rescuer, an Angelino, and enjoys an unhealthy level of self-criticism.

I am loving this decentralized feel. Reminds me of the old days when the internet was organic and filled with solid irc alliances that would hunt nazi channels down and destroy them with botnets, ddos attacks, and a solid amount of doxing.

Because this is literally my first lemmy account it may suddenly go silent. It may not. I am learning fast how this thing works and so far I like this instance.

Mind you, this will only work for the subs that aren't private. But I know reddit limits you from seeing more than 150 subs you subscribe to. If you're like me and had an 8+ year account then you had easily 1000 subs you had a subscription to. I did. Use the coding in the link from that girhub page and you'll scrape out all your subs so you can follow them here on Lemmy. Spread the word. Just don't spread it on reddit cause I'm afraid the admins will catch on and disable the ability.

What’s the next step after this? What’s the best way to figure out which instance has the best basket weaving community to subscribe to?

Good question. It'll take time to cultivate which is kind of exciting to get to watch from the start, imho. We can build our communities here and let our activities define this next chapter while using reddit as reference. And as we go we will find we'll need reddit less and less. It's just going to take a bit of time. That being said - I honestly don't think reddit and twitter are going to be the only two socials that get shitty. I think the internet, as we know it, is about to become a shittier and darker place on whole. It really seems like the tech conglomerates are happy to all go the way of Rupert Murdoch. I'm just glad enough of us are attempting to stay one step ahead of them.
