Hey all, going to be staying in Calgary for this week (Monday - Saturday) and hoped to get some restaurant recommendations from the locals! I really enjoy middle-eastern and Asian cuisine, but I'm open to anything, as is my wife. We're going to be downtown in a friend's house if that matters.

Thank you!

Edit: just arrived in Calgary, pretty tired but thank you all for the recommendations, I'll make sure to try plenty while I'm here!

I'll tell you where NOT to go: Jerusalem Shwarma. They've been hit with multiple AHS violations across multiple restaurant locations. Not all locations have been closed down at one point or another, but enough have that it makes me doubt the entire franchise

Jimmy’s A&A is the beast for Shwarma/Donair. He's been in business since I was a baby

Most likely will check this one out, thanks man

seconding this, Jimmy's is great

Good to know. I was eyeing shawarma and Jerusalem was one of the most "popular" ones on Google reviews... Will stay far away after reading what has happened with them

Jinya for ramen and La Boulangerie for awesome bread, coffee and tarts!

Kinjo with the Japanese street foods locations have amazingly good ramen at $7-$8

Wow that's pretty cheap, if I stumble across one I'll try them. Thanks!

Kinjo in general is pretty good value.

If you happen to be heading south, Spices Indian and Nepalese restaurant is fantastic. Calgary has some great Vietnamese places as well.

If I do end up down south for whatever reason I'll check them out, thanks

If you're in the mood for a wing night, Mugshotz has amazing wings with over 100 flavour options. My personal favourite are the garlic parmesan wings.

Check out Carino if you want to give Asian-Italian fusion a try. I'm a huge fan of Menyatai noodles if you're looking for a nice small ramen shop.

Might also be worth just going for a walk in Chinatown to find some cool places like Point Sushi. They have sushi that gets delivered to your table via bullet train!

Thank you for the recommendation, just got to Calgary and will probably try one of these tomorrow, cheers!

Any good places for beans?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

My favorite places are Noble Pie (pizza), sukiyaki House (sushi), wakado (ramen), deepak's Dhaba (Indian), Hayden Block (bbq), great taste (Chinese) silver Dragon (dim sum).
