OceanGate, a deep-sea adventure company, is listing two missions to the Titanic shipwreck in June 2024.

….yeah, something tells me there won’t be too many takers for those.

Something tells me the web team quit and nobody has the password to update the site yet.

Ever since the incident, their marketing team has been under a lot of pressure...

That's not funny. There are people out there who were absolutely crushed by this situation.

I want to sub for more of these jokes

I just don't see the humor in people losing loved ones. If it were me going through it, honestly, I think my whole life would just implode.

C'mon @ivanafterall. You can't go so hard on users. They're just getting their feet wet in the Fediverse and your tone could make them feel they can't have a submersible experience into the new culture. Then again, your comment won't be lost in a vast ocean of noise.

This whole thread is depressing.

Alexa, play Air Supply.

Guys, guys. You're getting too deep into this.

Once when driving through Pakistan, I stopped at Ghotki, the last town in Sindh before Punjab, and home of a major Engro Chemicals plant. Shahzada (translates to Prince) Dawood, heir of Dawood Hercules, and VC of their subsidiary Engro Corp was on the Titan.

Let me tell you the absolute desolation and squalor in Ghotki and the surrounding area and the world of difference in the gated community is dizzying. Like you go from stick think barefoot kids running around with tires propelled by sticks with garbage burning in the unpaved street to brick paved streets with kids racing electric scooters munching on KFC which doesn't even charge the residents of the community but is payed for by the company.

Oh yeah, if I were in their shoes, I'd be utterly crushed!

[–] [email protected] 17 points 2 years ago

I bet it's 'unsinkable'

[–] [email protected] 13 points 2 years ago

Probably, yes, the site is up but no one has touched it since the disaster

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Probably not much left of the company at all. They closed their headquarter permanently the same day Titan disappeared, and this was not even announced by themselves but by their landlord.

They should advertise expeditions to the Titan crash site.

Perfect for the "fuck you got mine" boomer looking for the ultimate way to "ski" (Spend Kids Inheritance)

You don’t even need a submersible craft to visit the site.

As long as you only want to go once!

Ooh! Count me in!

Their website leaves a lot of unanswered questions for potential customers, though. For example, am I guaranteed a quick, painless death or will I suffer? How much warning is there before the collapse? During the descent, how long will it take for the interior to smell like "I'm about to die" farts?

At crush depth, “limited space available” takes on a new meaning.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

It's all a matter of perspective. When you tear down a wall in a house, you don't lose space. They gained an entire ocean worth of space, if you're a glass half-full kind of person. And to their credit, they weren't content with just half-full.

Expeditions to the Titanic. They don't say anything about coming back.

As a web developer, I would have been updating my resume and getting out of there, rather than worrying about the site content. Someone in C-Suite is gonna have to call the hosting provider.

The ultimate Titanic experience : see the wreckage and experience being a wreck.

LMFAO! You owe me a new keyboard. I just spouted coffee all over it.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

How much of a discount are they offering?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

No discount, but the ticket comes with unlimited rides.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

The website also said travelers may be joined by French diver PH Nargeolet — one of the people who died on board the Titan submersible earlier this month.

Damn, this goes so much deeper than /corporatefacepalm. rip Nargeolet.

Also, must go look for that sub in the Fediverse.
Edit: /corporatefacepalm hasn't been created yet.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

Is there a facepalm community yet?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

Great! Any profit they make off them can be used toward recompensating the Coast Guard.....because of the......y'know......
