I tried many shampoo alternatives… it really depends on your hair type what works for you. But the best I found is soap nuts (yes, the same as the ones used for laundry) with alma and shikakai powder or rye flour shampoo. I think I found the recipes in the Happy Hair book (it’s a good book). People often say that shampoo bars don’t work well for them, especially in the long-term. At first I tried the baking soda method and it seemed to work well but then it started to destroy my hair… not recommended. :-/
Sustainable Living & Design
A place to talk about living in a sustainable way. The focus here is on individual lifestyles, not big technological fixes. Things like growing and cooking your own produce, repairing instead of replacing, and reusing instead of throwing away.
This is a friendly and collaborative community, for people who want to work towards improving the sustainability of their lifestyles. Everyone who is working towards that goal is welcome here, no matter what point you are starting at.
I haven't had that problem, what shampoo/conditioner are you using? I use faith in nature right now. It leaves a weird feeling that I wouldn't describe as waxy until it fully dries, but then my hair feels clean.
I haven't tried it, but quite a few of the reviews said they use an apple cider rinse to remove the residue, and that it is something you only have for a while after changing so you don't necessarity need to use the rinse long term.
I know that soaps and detergent can sometimes react to create a residue, could it be interacting with another product you use?
This is the third one I've used (the others were more expensive) and it's significantly more waxy. Like I would have to do an apple cider rinse everytime I wash my hair instead of every 5/6 times.
