The plan is to deorbit it in 2030 when the structure will be too old to operate safely.

The original plan was to use Russian pods to help, but with Russia leaving the station in 2028 they can’t rely on that any more so they opened a bid to US companies to design a new deorbiter craft.

Too bad it can’t be disassembled instead. It’s full of precious metals and all kinds of other materials. Shame to burn it all up.
