Looks like Reddit has been down for the last 30'ish minutes. I'm wondering if they're either trying to change some platform features while using the blackout as a distraction, or if they're working to recover some of the larger subreddits who have entered the protest.

Or who knows, maybe they have decided to join the blackout themselves? /s

Just seems like part of the "find out" protocol.

Why care about it anymore? They have showed their true faces. We can talk about monetization but they can't treat their community the way they did.

Once people discover lemmy there is no going back.

The same reason we're still not quite over talking about whatever Twitter is getting up to! Like it or not these platforms have been a big part of our lives for coming up on a couple of decades now, so there will always be some residual interest in watching the train wrecks develop.

"Blackout? There's no blackout. In fact we had so much traffic today that our servers couldn't handle it! Also Reddit users love me and think I'm awesome."

Seems like a distraction or coverup of some sort. Behind the scenes, maybe reverting to a backup?

I don't know if it was intentional or not, but I tried visiting Reddit anonymously and I was denied with a "There seems to be a problem" page but when I visited without it, I could see the front page. Are they somehow denying anonymous browsers?

Maybe I'm being paranoid.

Right? It can't be a coincidence.
