Heyheyhey Lemmy.NZ

Throw out your preferred app, preferably with a link.

Asking for this here because many reddit refugees from the great third party app purge may not look out of the federation or find apps as easy to find as before.

Expecting there to be a load on f-droid, izzy etc?

I'm using Jerboa from F-Droid (don't have Google Services on my phone)! It's definitely still got a way to go before it catches up to Infinity which is what I used for Reddit but it works well enough!

With the recent projects intended to make it easy to convert Reddit apps into Lemmy ones I imagine that we'll be seeing more options soon!

Jerboa is working fine for me, reasonably similar to Boost. My biggest issue is just how empty this place is, I do hope we see an exodus from Reddit.

Have you found some communities on other instances? If you change your front page to be on All in the filter, you should see lots of activity. You can actually change this to be the default in your settings - at least on the website you can.

I had a look at the Ukraine community, it's still pretty empty. You can set the home feed up to work much like Boost did on Reddit. We really need to get a lot more people on board to make this platform viable, I think.

Looking at the All feed, there are 10+ new posts created in the last 10 mins on other servers. But beware, the default sorting is "Active" which is (I think) posts that people are commenting on. If you want to see new stuff, try "New" or "Hot".

Another jerboa user. Took me ages to figure out getting remote communities from the server list, not the app!

Yeah im using jebora for my samsung, still getting the hang of the instance stuff though

If I could use my reddit app for Lemmy I'd be stoked, I've been a paid user of Relay for years and Jerboa is just different enough to throw me off balance a little even though it seems like a solid start.

I'm kinda lucky in that I only switched to Infinity a few months ago after using Sync for almost a decade so my brain was kinda primed for the transition!

I went through and tried all the Lemmy apps available on the play store and I feel Jerboa is the best of the bunch, I have heightened accessibility needs (low vision) too which Jerboa again seeming to be the best of the bunch as I'm pretty sure it runs straight off my android settings so the text is big enough for me to read comfortably.

I'm finding mlem on ios real good - yesterday's update fixed a lot of timeline bugs, and it's nice to see improvements happening so quickly!

I'm also using mlem, it crashes a bit but other is nice

Just using the website. All Lemmy apps at a this stage are quite barebones and a bit buggy. The website on the other hand works just fine, and is mobile friendly, so I'm not really missing an app at the moment.

I've been using Quickddit for Reddit on #SailfishOS, and still waiting for some indication on future direction from the developer.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Yay, nice to meet another SailfishOS fan!

Unfortunately this API change will affect ALL third-party apps, so it's likely that it'll just stop working (unless the dev offers am expensive monthly subscription option to keep the app going - which is highly unlikely in this case.)

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Wow Sailfish is a name I haven't heard in a while - how is it? Looks like a very small list of supported devices?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Oh wow I used to love that app on my Nexus 5 running SailfishOS some 8 years ago! Neat to see that it's still going!

Hopefully it gets updated to support Lemmy, I've seen a few projects that should male it easier to do!

Currently just using Lemmy as an add to Home option. Seems to work well through the website version, a bit basic … just like Reddit used to be!
