Chat is a text only community for casual conversation, please keep shitposting to the absolute minimum. This is intended to be a separate space from c/chapotraphouse or the daily megathread. Chat does this by being a long-form community where topics will remain from day to day unlike the megathread, and it is distinct from c/chapotraphouse in that we ask you to engage in this community in a genuine way. Please keep shitposting, bits, and irony to a minimum.

As with all communities posts need to abide by the code of conduct, additionally moderators will remove any posts or comments deemed to be inappropriate.

Thank you and happy chatting!

Was it their transphobia or just their general reactionary attitude?

It was actually over ablism, one of our mods was raising the issue of their constant use of -tard and language like that on 196, and the head mod there reacted by banning them, with an abilist insult in the mod message too if I recall. It was eventually reverted, but that was enough for us to give them the boot thankfully.

Other users had raised issues with all the chasers and the pro-chaser culture, along with their anticommunist politics, but it was officially over this afaik.

do you think upstream lemmy would support a "filtered federation" policy? maybe allow general federation, but have off-instance posts/comments mentioning the bad words be string replaced like removed or maybe the whole post be nineteeneightyfour'd.

I requested a small community change from the same mod that sharedburdens mentioned, that mod promptly leaked the DM in a 196 post mocking me.

The lemmy.blahaj.zone admin "talked to the mod" instead of taking action, this along with what sharedburden stated made it pretty clear that prioritizing the 196 community over any concerns we had is what would occur.

Despite their admins demanding changes from us that we accommodated, any requests from our side would be routinely ignored.
