Just a community question: Why is there a rule against furry art?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 days ago

Oh thats a tough one, i dont like it but ive seen a major community divided over it before. It comes down to not the art but the size of the furry community, they are more prolific in general, so theres alot more of it, but the genre is not really understood by the general art community, which is comparitivley smaller in terms of posting. So we decided against it here, to keep moderating easy, and since there are likely already other dedicated communities for that anyway. I hope that makes some degree of sense. I dont mind linking a good furry community on the side bar near that rule if you would like to suggest one though.

are there any humans here, or just a bot posting images from elsewhere?

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 year ago (3 children)

You know, i kinda wish i had a bot to choose the art, find the artists real name, and do the markup text for the description, since those are all a pain to do. Sadly though, its just me doing all the posts manually.

The community is new, and the posting requirements are pretty strict, so its mostly just me (who made this place) posting, hopefully as time goes on there will be more interaction from the community, but until then we can all just enjoy the art.

I don't have a bot either, but my Google Sheet that scrapes SauceNAO data for Pixiv and DeviantArt art might help you out with the formatting at least. Choose either the Pixiv tab or DeviantArt tab at the bottom, put the URL for any image in cell B2, and it tries to do the rest.

Whoa, cool, I found another good art community on the Fediverse! For a while, I thought mine at @FloatingIsFun was the only one. I appreciate that you guys also require the artist name in the post title. Once that weird Fedia/Lemmy timestamp bug gets sorted out, I'll try to post things here too.

Are you happy with me occasionally crossposting from the Imaginary community I run?

Does the title have to be the original artists title, or can I rename it?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Sure thing, you can edit the titles as much as you need to make them fit or what not since the source will be included anyway.

Warning, big chunk of text!

Hi all!

I’m more interested in the opinion of 2D artists, but I think the problem is common and I will be grateful for any answer :)

Introductory part: Lately I really like the idea of drawing - the ability to transfer the real world or your thoughts into a drawing - something akin to magic.

But since childhood, this was not given to me, there was no talent or attraction, and until recently even the idea of drawing did not attract me in any way, except perhaps “it’s funny, it wouldn’t be bad to be able to do it,” but there was no thought of learning.

I am a rather lazy person, and besides, most of my energy goes to work with an unstable schedule. The last working day started at 8 am and ended at 10 pm and this is not an uncommon situation. After work, there is little energy left to do something other than quickly scroll social media or play a little a RPG or a visual novel.

The last couple of attempts to start learning ended quite quickly either due to difficulties in finding good courses in 2D drawing or an unexpected rush at work or some other situation that drains energy.

But the idea of learning how to draw still doesn’t leave me, even though I haven’t been able to start learning and practicing.

Main part: I’m interested in the experience of people with a situation similar to mine, but who were able to overcome this barrier and start learning on an ongoing basis and achieved significant results.

What was your source of inspiration? What was the magic kick in the ass that made it possible to overcome laziness, fatigue and the feeling that all this is useless and force yourself to study? Maybe it was a successful course or a film, book, music or painting? Or for those who like a more structured approach, did you manage to create a convenient plan or strategy for practice and learning that fits well into your daily schedule?

I understand that each situation is a personal experience and it may not be suitable for anyone else, but it is still interesting to know and there is a small hope that some part of your experience may be suitable for me or someone else who sees this post.

Thanks to everyone who read all this to the end :)

I'm thinking on commissioning an artist, but what are the best places to find one? I know about Fiverr but there are probably better sites than that. Also I kinda want to support a smaller artist and not an already well-known / established one.
